The Australian Cattle Dog is a hearty herding breed that requires regular exercise. This native of Germany makes a good family dog and is a loyal working dog that requires minimal grooming.

Physical Characteristics
- Large build
- Almond-shaped brown eyes
- Red or blue speckle coloring
- Black nose
- Coat: Blue- or red-tinted hair
- Height: 17-20 inches
- Weight: 33-55 pounds
- Average lifespan: 12-15 years
Temperament
- Loyal, protective, alert, watchful, obedient
- Interaction with people: Wary of strangers; not recommended for children
- Level of attention needed: Needs significant attention
- Training: Easily trained; requires firm training and socialization as a puppy
Medical Conditions
- Deafness
- Hip and elbow dysplasia
- Ophthalmic disorders (including progressive retinal atrophy and cataracts)
- von Willebrand's Disease (blood disorder)
