Physical Characteristics
  • Comes in two types: folded ear or straight ear
  • Comes in all colors possible
  • Ears folded forward and downward on the head
  • Medium cat with a rounded, well-padded body
  • Dense coat in two lengths: long and short
  • Large, round, broadly-spaced eyes
  • Short nose with a gentle curve in profile
Temperament
  • Quiet, hardy, need lots of love and human companionship
  • Good with children and dogs
Medical Conditions
  • Healthy breed
  • Needs boosters by 12 weeks old
  • Annual vet visit for checkups is important
While the listed ailments may be common in this breed, not all members of the breed suffer from these conditions. Responsible breeders screen for orthopedic and genetic diseases.
At Home
  • Does best indoors
  • Needs sufficient scratching device
  • Declawing is not recommended
  • Kittens are available after 12-16 weeks
Grooming
  • Trim nails regularly
Other Facts
  • All Scottish Fold kittens are born with straight ears
  • At about three to four weeks of age, their ears fold
Breed History
  • In 1961 a shepherd by the name of William Ross spotted the first known Scottish Fold cat at a farm near Coupar Angus in the Tayside Region of Scotland, Northwest of Dundee
