Physical Characteristics
- Short, dense coat
- The coat is a bright blue color with silver tips
- Large, rounded, wide-set eyes that are a vivid green color
- Broad, medium-wedge head and flat profiles
- Large, pointed ears that are wide at the base and set toward the side of the head
- The body is fine-boned, long and firmly muscled
Temperament
- Gentle, affectionate, quiet, playful
- Good companion cat
- Good with children and other pets
Medical Conditions
- Healthy breed
- Needs boosters by 12 weeks old
- Annual vet visit for checkups is important

At Home
- Does best indoors
- Needs sufficient scratching device
- Declawing is not recommended
- Kittens are available after 12-16 weeks
- Low maintenance
- Can entertain themselves if left alone for the day

- Needs frequent petting and occasional combing
Other Facts
- Rumor has the Russian blue as a descendant of the Royal Cat of the Russian Czars and as a favored pet of Queen Victoria
Breed History
- Many believe the Russian blue is a natural breed originating from the Archangel Isles in northern Russia
- It is believed that they were brought by sailors from the Archangel Isles to England and Northern Europe in the 1860s
- American breeders combined the English bloodlines with their plush, silvery coats and Scandinavian bloodlines with their emerald green eyes and flat profiles to produce the Russian blue we know today
