Physical Characteristics
- Longflowing coats
- Open, pansy-like faces
- Large, expressive eyes
- Short, heavy-boned legs support their broad, short bodies
- Come in a huge array of colors and patterns
- With good nutrition and care this breed can live for 15 to 20 years
Temperament
- Sweet, gentle, playful, not demanding, responsive, quiet, adaptable
Medical Conditions
- Needs boosters by 12 weeks old
- Annual vet visit for checkups is important

At Home
- Does best indoors
- Not prone to high jumping and climbing
- Enjoy an atmosphere of security and serenity
- Needs sufficient scratching device
- Declawing is not recommended
- Kittens are available after 12-16 weeks
Grooming
- Needs daily combing with a metal comb to eliminate tangles and reduce hairballs
- Needs an occasional bath after a complete comb-through
- Trim nails regularly
- Establish bathing routine when young
- A daily face wash is recommended because of the natural tearing of their large eyes

Breed History
- Smuggled out of Persia among the spices and jewels in caravans en route to Iran
- Named after Persia, their country of origin
- Hieroglyphics dating from as early as 1684 B.C. make references to longhaired cats
