Physical Characteristics
- Glistening, muscular, hard tubular bodies
- Color descriptions start with the primary Siamese colors, to which the mottling of red or cream has been added

- Loving, yet independent

- Needs boosters by 12 weeks old
- Annual vet visit for checkups is important

At Home
- Does best indoors
- Needs sufficient scratching device
- Declawing is not recommended
- Kittens are available after 12-16 weeks
- Low maintenance
- Good for owners with allergies
Grooming
- Occasional bath is recommended, but allow the freshly-bathed coat to air dry in a warm spot; Do not bow dry
- Do brush the coat with the concave or short side of a small rubber brush to remove loose hair and make the coat lie smooth
- Coat can be “finished” by smoothing the coat with a chamois cloth
- Trim nails regularly

- First cousins of the Siamese
- Distinguished by its elegance in sixteen different “point” colors beyond the four Siamese colors
Breed History
- Continuous breeding of the Siamese has led to the Colorpoint Shorthair’s recognition circa 1947-48
- In the early breedings, breeders concentrated on cats with red or cream restricted to the points (face, legs, ears, tails and genitals)
- Early hybridization with domestic shorthairs, and the refinement by concentrating the Siamese gene with the red gene, produced the first of the colors to be called Colorpoint Shorthairs
