The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals released its annual estimate of basic pet cares costs. Included in the list were seven animals: dogs (small, medium and large), cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, small mammals, small birds and fish. According to the list, large dog breeds are the most expensive pet to own, while fish and birds are the least expensive. The first year of care for a large dog is estimated to cost $1,843, while the estimated cost of a small bird is $270. For a complete list of the estimates, click here.
