In honor of National Bunny Week, Yahoo! Shine Pets burrowed through the books and pulled these rabbit facts out of a hat!

The Bunny Hop, a novelty dance, was invented at a San Francisco high school in 1952. Often used by party/wedding DJs to get everyone on the dance floor, it's a reliable way to get your shoes hopped off by the person behind you in line.

Bunny athletes are all over Europe, it seems. At last year's 5th Open Rabbit Sport Tournament, held in August of 2011, 80 rabbits competed in light-weight, middle-weight and jumping-for-points categories.

Apparently Brooklyn's famous Coney Island -- home of the Cyclone, the Wonder Wheel, and the annual hot-dog-eating contest -- is named after the native rabbits, or coneys ("konijn" in Dutch) who used to share the beach with the original Native American inhabitants.

Why does a magician pull a rabbit out of a hat and not, say, a puppy or a chicken? We did a little Googling, and as best we can tell, it's not because of any alleged mystical properties of bunnies. It's because, unlike other animal candidates, they're silent -- and won't give away the trick.

The Bunny Museum in Pasadena, CA in 2010 was deemed the world's largest collection of bunny memorabilia by Guinness in 1999.

"The rabbit test," in which a bunny is injected with a woman's urine, and the bunny's death indicates that the woman is pregnant, is an urban legend -- but it persisted until relatively recently, likely propagated by pop-culture characters dramatically announcing pregnancies with, "The rabbit died!"

Bob Barker has a bunny named Mr. Rabbit. The longtime "Price Is Right" host was well known for urging viewers to spay and neuter their pets, and is a longtime animal-welfare advocate.
