It's apparently the year of the dog in China! A stray pup joined cyclists on a 1,100-mile trek across the nation, tagging along with the group and ultimately finishing alongside the team -- 12 mountains and 25 days later.
The cyclists called their little buddy “Xiao Sa,” or Little Sa -- but internet fans have nicknamed her "Forrest Gump."
The newly-minted national hero met up with the cyclists -- friends who were riding together as a graduation trip -- early on in their journey from Sichuan province to Tibet. “She was lying, tired, on the street around Yajiang, Sichuan province,” one cyclist told China Daily. “So we fed her, and then she followed our team.”
One member of the group blogged about Xiao Sa’s adventures, noting that she kept up with their 30-40 mile a day pace and stayed with them on climbs up mountains as high as 14,000 feet. At night, Xiao Sa slept on their raincoats and shared their food.
And even better than crossing the finish line? One of the cyclists has since adopted Xiaosa, who a veterinarian has decreed is in great health after her journey.
