The Romneys just haven't learned. Despite the massive public backlash to Mitt Romney's admission that he strapped his Irish setter Seamus to the roof of his car on family trips -- the presidential candidate's wife Ann is continuing to defend the behavior.

She told Diane Sawyer, “The dog loved it. He would see that crate and, you know, he would, like, go crazy because he was going with us on vacation.  It was to me a kinder thing to bring him along than to leave him in the kennel for two weeks.”

This isn't the first time Ann has fumbled the defense of the incident. In a 2007 blog, Ann Romney said the dog rode “in an enclosed kennel, not in the open air.” In a twisted attempt to prove it was a safe practice, Ann compared the experience with a person riding on a motorcycle or roller coaster.

However when asked if he would put Seamus back on the roof today, Mitt responded, "Certainly not with the attention it's received."

A recent survey found that only 20 percent of respondents had a favorable opinion of Romney's treatment towards dogs, while 44 percent felt confident that Barack Obama is a good leader for the canine population.
