RIYADH -- Religious police in Saudi Arabia have banned the sale of cats and dogs as pets, in an effort to prevent men from using them to make passes at women and preserve public morals. The religious police are known as the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, or the Muttawa. The ruling also bans walking the animals in public.
