With medical costs rising and technology advancing, buying pet insurance is becoming more and more popular among pet owners. Writing for MSN Money, Liz Pulliam Weston offers three reasons for considering pet insurance:

  1. More treatable diseases: Diseases that were once fatal to pets are now becoming increasingly curable. Pets can receive radiation or organ transplants. While this is good news for you and your pet, it's not good news for the wallet. Procedures can cost upwards of $1,000; pet insurance can help with these costs.
  2. New technology: With advances in technology, pets can be tested and screened for health problems -- or even have an MRI. These advances in pet health care can come with a hefty price tag.
  3. Health-care inflation: Vet fees are constantly on the rise, in order to keep up with advances in health care and technology. Costs will continue to rise a little more each year.
