- Mars Veterinary, a McLean, Va.-based subsidiary of the Mars candy bar people that makes nutrition and other pet-care products, offers the Wisdom Panel MX mixed breed analysis. Veterinarians take a blood sample and send it to the Mars lab for the test that can detect more than 130 recognized breeds. The test costs $125. For more information, click here.
- MMI Genomics, a subsidiary of MetaMorphix Inc., a Beltsville, Md.-based life sciences company that uses DNA to improve animal wellness, offers the Canine Heritage XL Breed Test. The dog owner uses a cotton swab to collect cells from the dog's cheek. The swab is sent to a lab where a test identifies more than 100 breeds, recently upgraded from the original 40-breed test.
